COST ADVANTAGES
Cost advantages begin accruing to the homeowner from the beginning.
Efficiencies gained at the factory are passed on the customer. Within
the Epoch factory, savings and efficiencies are gained in the following
ways
More efficient use of resources
Factory construction enables Epoch to plan raw materials to take
advantage of Just in Time inventory methodologies that eliminate the
carrying costs associated with the storage of vast amounts of raw materials.
High Volume Purchases
Agreements with suppliers based on bulk purchases enable Epoch to garner
significant discounts for raw materials.
State of the Art design capability
The use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) enables your home to be computer
designed and engineered like the finest automobiles or fighter jets.
This design capability allows for significantly better materials
planning and a substantial reduction in waste.
Comfortable and Stable workforce
A well trained, experienced, comfortable and stable workforce enables
Epoch to keep the manufacturing line moving constantly. This keeps the
factory on schedule and ensures that the overhead costs are utilized in
the most efficient manner. Comfortable employees focus on the work at
hand as opposed to how to stay dry, warm or cool.
Controlled Environment
Factory construction eliminates the costs associated with weather
related construction delays.
Focus on Safety
Epoch’s focus on safety and OSHA compliance ensures the plant
experiences fewer accidents, thus incurring lower insurance premiums.
Shorter construction cycle
A shorter construction cycle (typically half that of Stick built) turns
into significant savings in interest payments for construction loans.
REPEATABLE PROCESSES
EPOCH Homes has been manufacturing homes for 20 years. In that time,
processes have been developed to the point where the results are
repeatable,
consistent, and of the highest quality. This provides EPOCH with the
unique advantage of being able to design and engineer quality into the
process. Quality Assurance professionals ensure quality throughout the
process as opposed to trying to inspect quality into the finished
product. Repeatable processes also ensure that if a quality defect is
detected at any point in the process it is corrected immediately as
opposed to expensive re-work at your home construction site.
CONSISTENT MATERIAL QUALITY
The materials used by EPOCH Homes in the manufacture of your home are of
the highest quality from the industry’s top manufacturers such as American Standard, Pella, Andersen,
and Plumb Creek, as well as
dimensional lumber from the nations top mills. The lumber is dried to
a moisture content of between fifteen and twenty percent. Experience has shown that this
moisture content produces a more stable raw material, less warpage and
fewer nail or screw pulls.
Epoch manufactures your home in a controlled
environment in a state of the art facility.
Contrast this with the typical site or stick built home. The materials
are exposed to the elements from the time they are delivered from the
lumberyard, while they await use on the project and after the
construction until the home is roofed. This could be a period of
several weeks. This produces warped and damaged raw materials.
REDUCTION IN TURNAROUND TIME
Typical construction financing must be in place before any contractor
will break ground for your new home. That means that you begin paying
for your new home several months before you can move into it. If your
construction project takes six months you essentially have six months of
mortgage payments ahead of you. But typically that is not he only major
expense you’ll be carrying. Most customers are also carrying a mortgage
or paying rent on their current residence.
In the EPOCH modular scenario, your only substantial cash outlay before
the home is delivered is the 10% down payment on the modules. Your home
is completed in a matter of weeks after delivery, not months as in a site
or stick built home.
The typical turnaround time for an Epoch Modular home from order to your
occupancy permit is 2 ˝ to 3 months.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
All EPOCH Homes are EnergyStar compliant. Typically EnergyStar homes
are 1/3 more energy efficient than typical construction built under the
1993 National model energy code.
Energy efficiency is designed into every EPOCH home, featuring an
EnergyStar compliant building envelope, high performance low e
thermopane windows, and controlled air infiltration. Epoch standard
homes are manufactured with 2X6 studs. This 2X6 construction method
allows for the installation of 6-inch R-19 insulation as compared to
3-inch R-13 insulation typically employed in the stick/site built home.
Additionally Epoch homes are built from the inside out. This allows
epoch to enhance the building energy envelope and ensure a leak proof
vapor barrier by calking around all switch, receptacle and gang boxes
from behind the sheetrock. All seams, both interior and exterior are
caulked to prevent air infiltration. Lower energy bills go directly to a
lower total cost of ownership.
Sparkling Homes of New England recommends EnergyStar compliant
heating /cooling and hot water systems as well as EnergyStar compliant
appliances. EPOCH Homes are less expensive to heat and cool.
CUSTOMIZATION
With over 120 standard floor plans and the ability to offer almost
infinite modifications and combinations, Sparkling Homes of New England
and Epoch Homes can offer virtually any design. Standard designs
include Colonials, Victorians, Capes, Ranches, Split-levels in one and
two-story homes as well as Contemporaries and Multifamily designs. We
also have the ability to design your dream home from the ground up or
convert your Architects design to a modular format.
